Ahmed Elsewedy: Julius Nyerere Project Highlights Egyptian Companies’ Global Capabilities

The project reflects Elsewedy Electric’s growing presence across Africa. It also highlights the company’s role in implementing one of the continent’s major hydropower projects through an Egyptian consortium with Arab Contractors.
Elsewedy expressed his pride in the company’s participation in the project. He described Julius Nyerere as an important example of Egyptian companies delivering complex strategic projects on an international scale.

Julius Nyerere Strengthens Egypt’s Presence in Africa

Elsewedy said Africa represents a natural extension of Elsewedy Electric’s growth strategy.
The company has focused on the continent for around 20 years. During this period, it has expanded its activities and developed experience across several African markets. Recent comments from Elsewedy also highlighted the company’s long-standing presence in West Africa and its work across countries including Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia.
He stressed that the Julius Nyerere project has particular importance because of its direct impact on Tanzanian citizens and the local economy.
The project supports energy availability. It also contributes to industrial and agricultural growth while creating employment opportunities.
As a result, Elsewedy sees the project as more than an infrastructure achievement. It represents a development project with a direct economic and social impact.

Egyptian Companies Join Forces on Major African Project

Elsewedy emphasized the importance of integrating Egyptian expertise.
The partnership with Arab Contractors brought together the capabilities and experience of both companies. This cooperation helped the Egyptian consortium execute a project of significant scale and complexity.
He said the project’s success represents an achievement for the entire Egyptian consortium.
The two companies combined their complementary strengths to address the technical and operational challenges associated with the project.
The successful cooperation also demonstrates the potential of Egyptian companies to work together on major projects outside the domestic market.

Julius Nyerere Supports Tanzania’s Development

The project carries significant importance for Tanzania.
According to Elsewedy, Julius Nyerere supports energy availability and can help stimulate industrial and agricultural development.
It also contributes to job creation and broader economic growth.
Recent reports confirmed that the plant has a total generation capacity of 2,115 megawatts, through nine generating units rated at 235 megawatts each.
The project’s official opening took place in Tanzania on August 22, 2026. Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attended the ceremony on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, alongside a high-level Egyptian delegation.

Human Capital Drives Major Project Success

Elsewedy stressed that human capital remains the real foundation behind the success of major projects.
He explained that Elsewedy Electric places strong emphasis on developing its people and building the capabilities required to deliver complex projects.
For the company, expertise does not end when construction finishes.
Instead, Elsewedy Electric focuses on projects that create positive and sustainable impacts for local communities.
This approach considers both economic and social outcomes.

Elsewedy Electric Targets Sustainable Impact in Africa

Elsewedy said the company focuses on projects that create genuine value for communities.
These projects aim to deliver positive economic and social outcomes that extend beyond the completion of construction.
The Julius Nyerere project reflects this approach.
It combines infrastructure development with energy generation and broader economic objectives for Tanzania.
At the same time, the project strengthens the position of Egyptian companies in Africa and demonstrates their ability to deliver major strategic infrastructure projects internationally.
The Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydropower Plant therefore represents an important milestone for Elsewedy Electric, Arab Contractors, and the broader Egyptian engineering sector.
