Egypt and Uganda Explore Joint Tourism and Hotel Investment Opportunities

Egypt and Uganda are exploring new opportunities for tourism and hotel investment cooperation, as the two countries look to develop joint tourism programs and strengthen private-sector partnerships.

The discussions took place during a meeting between the Egyptian Travel Agents Association (ETAA) and a high-level delegation from the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB).
The meeting focused on potential cooperation across tourism activities. It also examined opportunities to promote tourism and hotel investments between the two countries.
The initiative comes as Egypt continues to strengthen tourism cooperation with African markets. It also reflects growing interest in creating integrated tourism products that connect destinations across the continent.

Egypt and Uganda Explore Joint Tourism Programs

Dr. Nader El-Beblawi, Chairman of the Egyptian Travel Agents Association, received the Ugandan delegation at the ETAA headquarters in Dokki.
The meeting explored the development of joint tourism programs for long-haul markets.
These markets include the Far East, Australia, North America, and South America.
The proposed programs would combine the tourism assets of Egypt and Uganda. International travelers could then experience both destinations through integrated itineraries.
This model could create new opportunities for tourism companies in both countries. It could also support higher tourist flows and expand access to new source markets.

Joint Workshops to Support Tourism Investment

The two sides agreed to organize a series of joint workshops in Egypt and Uganda.
The ETAA and Uganda Tourism Board will support these workshops.
The two parties will also prepare an agenda for future meetings. In addition, they will examine practical mechanisms for implementing the areas of cooperation discussed during the meeting.
The initiative aims to strengthen cooperation between the private tourism sectors of Egypt and Uganda.
It also seeks to create a clearer framework for future tourism and hospitality partnerships.

Egypt and Uganda Bring Complementary Tourism Assets

Dr. Nader El-Beblawi stressed Egypt’s interest in expanding cooperation with African counterparts, particularly in tourism.
He said the ETAA Board of Directors fully supports Egypt’s efforts to strengthen relations with African countries.
El-Beblawi also highlighted Uganda’s diverse tourism assets.
These include lakes, forests, wildlife, adventure tourism, safari experiences, and Nile tourism.
He also pointed to the relatively short travel time between Egypt and Uganda.
According to El-Beblawi, the journey takes approximately four hours. This could support tourism flows and create additional opportunities for cooperation between companies in both markets.

Egyptian Tourism Companies See New Market Opportunities

Karim El-Menbawy, Chairman of the ETAA Foreign Tourism Committee, welcomed the Ugandan delegation.
He highlighted the potential created by the complementary tourism assets of Egypt and Uganda.
According to El-Menbawy, the diversity of both destinations can support the development of distinctive tourism programs.
Such programs could help companies in both markets reach new source markets. They could also contribute to increasing tourist flows.
He added that Egyptian tourism companies welcome the proposed cooperation.
The ETAA Foreign Tourism Committee will examine the ideas discussed during the meeting. It will also work on developing an implementable framework for private-sector cooperation.

Uganda Seeks to Benefit from Egypt’s Tourism Expertise

The Ugandan delegation praised the ETAA for hosting the meeting and welcomed the discussions on future cooperation.
The delegation described Egypt as Africa’s leading tourism destination.
It also expressed a desire to benefit from Egypt’s extensive experience in tourism and hospitality.
The delegation highlighted Egypt’s experience in developing the Nile as a tourism asset.
It also emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two countries across different tourism and hospitality activities.
The delegation included Tony Molende, Rashid Kiemba, Vincent Oberimo, and Aidet Wada, Secretary of the Uganda Tourism Board.
The Ugandan representatives also noted the longstanding relations between Egypt and Uganda at the level of political leadership, governments, and peoples.
They expressed confidence that the visit could lead to stronger and more effective tourism cooperation.

Nile Tourism Creates a Model for Egypt-Uganda Cooperation

Nancy Abdel Hady, Uganda’s Goodwill Ambassador to Egypt and Executive Director of the African Tourism Authority, highlighted Uganda’s interest in benefiting from Egypt’s tourism experience.
She explained that the Ugandan delegation included senior government officials and leading Ugandan investors who are members of the Uganda Tourism Board.
During their visit, the delegation toured several hotels, tourism destinations, and archaeological sites.
The delegation also visited Sharm El-Sheikh and explored both floating and fixed hotels along the Nile.
Abdel Hady said the delegation was impressed by Egypt’s experience in transforming the Nile into a globally recognized tourism product.
Her comments align with a broader vision she has previously outlined for stronger tourism integration between Egypt and Uganda. She has highlighted the potential to combine Egypt’s historical and cultural attractions with Uganda’s forests and wildlife in joint tourism programs targeting international travelers.

Tourism Delegation Exchanges to Strengthen Private-Sector Links

Abdel Hady said the coming period is expected to witness additional visits by Ugandan delegations to Egypt.
Representatives of Egyptian tourism chambers are also expected to visit Uganda.
These exchange visits could strengthen direct communication between the private tourism sectors of both countries.
They could also help companies identify practical opportunities in tourism, hospitality, and investment.
The latest meeting therefore represents a step toward building a broader Egypt-Uganda tourism partnership.
With joint programs, workshops, delegation exchanges, and potential hotel investment opportunities, both sides are seeking to transform tourism cooperation into practical business opportunities.
